KidsSafeTech Privacy Policy
Effective August 1, 2026 · Last updated September 6, 2026
Which app is this?
This policy covers KidsSafeTech, our Android parental control app — the one that lets you protect selected apps with a PIN and set time limits for your child's device use. For our other apps, see the WisdomBill and website policy or the WisdomTrack policy.
The short version
KidsSafeTech is local-first. Which apps you have protected, your time settings and your child's screen time figures are kept in private storage on your own device and are never transmitted anywhere. There is no account to create and no server of ours that holds any of it.
Nothing a child does in another app is recorded, transmitted or readable by us.
What the app stores, and where
Configuration — on your device only
- Which apps you have chosen to protect.
- Your time settings — daily allowances, head starts, and blocked times.
This is held in the app's own private storage on the device. It is never sent to us or to anyone else.
App usage — on your device only, and deleted after seven days
To show you how long a protected app has been used, the app measures screen time on the device. Those figures are kept for up to seven days and then automatically deleted. They never leave the device.
Diagnostics
If the app crashes, an anonymous report is sent through Google Firebase Crashlytics containing the stack trace, your device model and manufacturer, the Android version and the app version. It contains nothing about you, your child, or which apps you have protected.
Your parent key
Unlocking is protected by a password you choose. You can add a second way in — a six-digit code from Google Authenticator on your own phone, a fingerprint, or a tap pattern — and protection will not start until two methods exist, so one lost or broken phone can never lock you out of your own child's device for good.
All of it stays on the device or on your own phone. If you use Google Authenticator, the code is generated on your phone and nothing stored on the child's device can reveal it. If you use a fingerprint, Android performs the match inside its own secure hardware and tells the app only whether it succeeded — the app never receives, sees or stores your fingerprint. We never receive any of these, because there is nowhere for them to be sent.
Repeated wrong attempts pause unlocking for a while. That is a delay on the device; no report of it goes anywhere.
Backups you make yourself
You can save your whole setup — protected apps, allowances and blocked times — as an encrypted block protected by a passphrase you choose, and restore it on a replacement phone or a second parent's device. The passphrase is yours and is not stored anywhere; we cannot read a backup, and we cannot recover one if the passphrase is lost. Backups are written to storage you choose and are never uploaded to us.
What we never collect
- No personal identifiers — no name, email, phone number or account.
- No location data.
- No contacts, messages or photos.
- No browsing history.
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertisements.
- No screen contents. See the note on the Accessibility Service below — the app is built so that reading what is on screen is not technically possible.
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. Firebase processes crash reports solely on our behalf as a service provider.
Permissions, and why each one is needed
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Accessibility Service | Detects which app is in front, so the lock can be applied |
| Usage Access | Measures how long a protected app has been used |
| Display over other apps | Draws the lock screen on top of the protected app |
| Query all packages | Builds the list of apps for you to choose from |
| Device Admin (optional) | Uninstall protection, if you switch it on |
| Notifications | Shows that protection is running |
| Startup & battery optimisation | Keeps protection working after the device restarts |
| Biometrics (optional) | Lets a parent unlock with a fingerprint |
| Internet / network state | Crash reports and update checks. Nothing else uses it |
About the Accessibility Service
An Accessibility Service is a powerful permission, so it is worth being precise about what this one can do. KidsSafeTech declares the service to receive window state changes only — that is, the fact that the foreground app has changed — and declares canRetrieveWindowContent=false.
That means the app cannot read the contents of any screen: not text, not messages, not passwords, not what your child is looking at. This is not a promise about our conduct; it is a limit built into how the service is declared, enforced by Android itself.
Data retention and deletion
- Screen time figures delete themselves after seven days.
- Uninstalling the app removes all local data — settings, protected app lists and usage figures — from the device.
- Crash reports held by Firebase expire on Google's retention schedule. To request deletion of crash data, email us at the address below.
Children's privacy
KidsSafeTech is designed for parents, not for children. The app is installed, configured and unlocked by a parent, and it is the parent who chooses which apps to protect and what limits to set.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Nothing a child does in another app is recorded, transmitted or readable by us — the app measures how long a protected app was open, on the device, and nothing more.
Your choices
- You can turn off crash reporting in the app's settings.
- You can change your password, or add and remove the second unlock method, at any time — provided two methods remain.
- You can revoke any of the permissions above through Android's own settings, though the app's protection will stop working without them.
- You can uninstall the app at any time, which removes everything it holds.
There is no account with us, so there is no profile to export, correct or close.
Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and change the date at the top before that change ships.
